Wands
Low cost contact type scanner
that is best suited for scanning flat clean surfaces.
One scan, one read. Not recommended for curved or oddly
shaped packages, nor in locations where dirt or dust exists.
CCD
Scanners
These scanners use diodes
to read bar codes at a scan rate of 40 to 80 reads per second.
New technology enables some CCD scanners to scan bar codes at
a distances exceeding 20". The new generation long
range CCD scanners can compete with many Laser in performance
and are less expensive. CCD scanners come in two basic
types, Touch
CCD Scanners can scan a bar code from contact up to an inch
way and Long
Range CCD Scanners can scan bar codes at distances up to
22 inches. Very effective for use with labels on flat or curved
packages.
Laser
Scanners
Laser Scanners can read bar
codes at a scan rate of 40 to 100 reads per second at ranges
from a few inches to 10 feet or more. They are the most
effective scanner for use with not only flat and curved packages,
but also for oddly shaped packages.
Bar Code Imagers
Imagers
are technically similar to CCD scanners but use LEDs to flood
the bar code with light. They combine the flexibility to
read 2 dimensional
symbologies such as the PDF417 and
Maxicode, along with standard linear (1D) type barcodes.
The versatile reading capability of barcode imagers allows fast
and easy decoding for retail, office and light industrial
applications.
Very effective reader for use with
labels on flat, rough, curved packages and even damaged
barcodes.
